It is very rightly said that ‘Perfume is the most intense form of memory’.

It’s a subtle aura that surrounds us. Whatever fragrance we use, it indicates our personality.

It expresses who the person is and what he/she likes. Finding a fragrance that perfectly reflects every facet of our personality can be a very difficult and intimate thing to do, and the other difficult task is to make the perfume stay longer on us!!

We have brought you the best ways to make your favourite perfume last longer on you so that you need not reapply every few hours:-

1.   Apply your perfume immediately after bath before putting your clothes:

Bathing opens up your skin pores and thus applying your perfume immediately will help your skin to absorb it better.

Perfume is activated by heat and chemical reactions so it’s actually more effective when it comes in contact with your body rather than your clothing. Also you will spare your dress and jewellery from any perfume stains!!

Body Lotions (preferably the unscented one so that it doesn’t interfere with the fragrance of the perfume) act as a bind to help the perfume stick to your skin, so rub a bit in to the spot you’ll be perfuming. The ointment or lotion, which are occlusive (heavy on skin or greasy), will hold the fragrance to your skin longer than if you were to spray it onto dry skin.

3.   Different Notes have different longevity : Different scents have different lifespan. Choose a perfume with strong base note. Citruses will fade the fastest because their molecules are so light, while floral and spices will take longer to leave. Scents that stick around longest are the ones commonly used as base notes, like vanilla, musk, woodsy, pine, patchouli, musk, frankincense and cedar.

4.  Your hairs can help you out : Your hair holds a scent better than your skin does. But remember that spraying an alcohol-based fragrance directly onto your hair will dry it out, so instead spray the fragrance on your brush before running it through your hair. Your hair will be lightly scented and undamaged.

5.   Always apply it on your pulse points : When wearing a perfume, stick to pulse points like your wrists, neck, and behind your knees. They radiate a little more heat, and they’re a nice spot to bounce around the smell a bit.

6.   Don’t rub or dab the perfume on your wrist after spraying : If you rub your wrists together, you’ll force the top notes to disappear faster than intended and as a result make your fragrance not last as long.

7.   For a lighter scent, spray the fragrance in the air and slowly walk into the mist : The spray will distribute evenly across your body and leave you with a hint of fragrance for occasions when you don’t want to smell as strong.

8.   To sample the true  scent of the fragrance you’re testing, wait until it has dried on your skin before smelling : The first scent you smell as soon as a fragrance is sprayed is the top note, which disappears after a few minutes anyway.

But to be really honest, in spite of your best efforts, your scent will probably fade away between morning 9 am and 9 pm.

We have to accept that it’s not like clothes—you don’t put it on in the beginning of the day and have it on until you take it off. It’s all about putting on a little before you want to make that impact.

Carry a small bottle of perfume with you, and add a bit as needed!!!
